While there are many tests of upper body strength, power and endurance, the consistency in scoring (reliability) has not been established when tests are combined as a multi-test battery. Validation of these tests is required in healthy controls prior to use in patient populations.
Healthy individuals will be asked to complete two testing sessions separated by one week where they will complete a collection of performance tests evaluating muscular strength, endurance and power for the shoulder.
Upon completion of this study, we will have an established battery of reliable functional performance tests for the upper extremity that can then be tested in patient populations.
In the future, we will develop return to sport assessment protocols using the tests from this protocol to establish deficits that require further treatment or a safe time point to return to sport.
