The Medical Careers Exploration Program (MCEP) is an innovative initiative that introduces Indigenous youth to diverse healthcare careers through hands-on practicum experiences. This program is delivered as a partnership between Winnipeg School Division and Pan Am Clinic Foundation, with the help of numerous healthcare partners. The program includes practicum experiences, in-school learning and support, as well as scholarships for post-secondary education for all of the program’s participants. By offering Indigenous youth a unique and tailored introduction to the careers available to them in the medical profession, MCEP will help bridge the gap of Indigenous representation within Canada’s medical professionals and work towards the recommendations set forth by the Truth & Reconciliation Commission.
