Is a FALL in your future?

Fall risk increases significantly as we age. This is due to a decline in activity as well as a decrease in strength and flexibility, especially in the legs.
These factors contribute to a loss of balance and this increases your risk of falling. In an environment like Manitoba with snow and ice, the risk is very real.

Hip strength is critical for fall prevention. In a study from 2014 researchers found that in adults 65-80 the biggest difference between those who fell and those who had not was
strength. When tested they found there was a 9 to 13 per cent difference in hip strength for specific muscles. Working on hip motor control, improving flexibility and specific strengthening exercises can help decrease your risk.
